Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society

The Puget Sound Maritime Historical Society (PSMHS) is dedicated to preserving and sharing the region's maritime past since 1948. In 2012, The Society's maritime collection was moved to the Georgetown neighborhood in Seattle and the PSMHS Maritime Research Center is located within the new MOHAI Resource Center. The PSMHS Maritime Research Center is a volunteer-driven organization. Researchers are required to make an appointment to use the collection or to be assisted by a research volunteer.

The Maritime Research Center houses approximately 3,500 maritime history books, over 50 different maritime periodicals, more than 60,000 historic maritime images, ships plans and archival materials related to Pacific Northwest maritime history.

The images selected and scanned for this web site depict a sampling of their collection and include photographs of ocean-going vessels, sailing ships, tugs, pleasure yachts, shipyards, and characters and trades relating to the maritime heritage of King County, Washington, from the 1890s through the 1970s.
