Quinceañera

Brenda

English

Most girls are excited about their sweet 16 party, but for most young Mexican girls a quinceañera is on their minds for becoming a young lady. Even though a quinceañera takes a long time on planning, it is a wonderful experience for the girls. One of the best parts of the quinceañera goes is picking the dress. The day of the quinceañera, the girl wants to look extra nice and special.

The day of the quinceañera starts off with a mass in honor of her. All of the family and the family's closest friends go to the mass. The priest talks to everyone, especially to the quinceañera girl about becoming a women. After the spiritual ceremony is over the quinceañera family and friends get together and take pictures.

Afterward, the quinceañera invites many guests to celebrate her becoming a woman. For this a hall big enough for all the guests is rented. There are many special things that are done for a quinceañera. First the young lady dances a Vals with all of her chambelanes and damas, who are other young people that accompany the girl. After that she gets crowned and is given the last doll that she receives. Also she dances with all of the people that sponsored the event. Then the quinceañera starts off the dance by dancing a slow song with her dad. After that all the dancing begins and the rest of the night is left for the quinceañera and all of her guests to dance.

My experience on having a quinceañera was I think different than others. The normal thing to do when having a quinceañera is having mass. I did not have a mass. I only had a party. What I felt by having a quinceañera was happiness and very lucky. I felt very happy because I knew all the people that were there in the party were there for me. I felt fortunate because there are many girls who want to have a quinceañera but for lack of resources, they never get their dream. For many having a quinceañera is like being in a fairy tale—all eyes are on you. It's something that I will remember for the rest of my life. This is my experience as a quinceañera.
