Milton Katims (1909-2006) was the conductor of the Seattle Symphony from 1954 to 1976, and he was largely responsible for taking a semi-professional ensemble and transforming it into an important, professional, regional orchestra. He was also a long-time champion of modern music, premiering many significant new works during his tenure.

This audio collection was digitized from Mr. Katims' personal collection of reel-to-reel audio tapes, which he donated to the School of Music at the University of Washington. The collection contains nearly every concert that Mr. Katims' conducted, dating back to 1947, and more works will be added as they are digitized.
