History & Geography
What is remarkable about the changes in learning history is that there is so much more of it to be learned. Various schemes have been devised to help students remember the important dates of history. The growth of audio-visual aids has dramatically affected the learning of history. For generations "history" for English children consisted of a recitation of the English kings and queens and the dates they reigned.
As for geography, the political boundaries and the country names and the balance of powers are much changed. In the 18th and 19th centuries, the child's world was small. Most people traveled within narrow areas and some people were born, lived and died without going beyond the town limits.
