Figs. 1-20 illustrate the growth of the seed oysters caught on small stones. Figs. 1-10 show three-month-old oysters attached to living snails (littorina littorea). Figs. 11-14 show the oysters of the same age attached to small stones. Figs. 15-18 show oysters one and one-half years old attached to small peggles, while Figs. 19-20 show two and one-quarter-year-old oysters attached in the same fashion. Fig.16 gives a peculiar illustration of the method of attachment. The young oyster has formed an attachment to a second pebble towards its free end at some distance from the first, indicating that the mantle, even at the age of one year, retains the power of secreting a fixative.

Sheltered Falls, Pike's Peak Trail
Manitou and Vicinity. Manitou, 'The Saratoga of the west,' nestled under the cold and snowy Pike's Peak, still it is always warm and pleasant even in coldest weather, noted for its numerous Mineral Springs, and hotel accommodations, which are superb, having some of the largest in the country. The best views are Manitou with Pike's Peak in the distance,--Rainbow Falls in Summer--Rainbow Falls in Winter--Soda Spring--Iron Springs--Pulpit Rock, Pike's Peak above the clouds--Cameron's Cone Natural Arch--the Narrows--Bridal Falls, &c, &c

Bliss No.253 Double End Flanging Machine.--This machine rapidly flanges both ends of can bodies (soldered or lock seamed) in preparation for double seaming tops and bottoms. A special patented device prevents the receding of the tail sotck during the operation, insuring univorm and even flanges. It will handle bodies 2 to 8 1/2 inches in diameter by 2 to 10 3/4 inches in height, and is easily adjusted for different sizes of cans.
