Contextual NotesA magnitude 7.1 earthquake on April 13, 1949 damaged eight buildings in the Washington State Capitol Group, including the Legislative Building. Repairs involved dome stabilization and reinforcement. The heavy stone spire at the top of the lantern was replaced by a lighter metal piece at this time.
