| Contextual Notes | The State Capitol Commission first met on July 26, 1893. The Commission was charged with orchestrating the construction of an appropriate State Capitol facility, from inception to finalized construction. Among other activities, the group organized architectural design competitions, selected contractors, and monitored the financial status of the project. (Source: Johnston, Norman J.
