NotesOn verso of image: The flood flow of the Columbia River reached its peak early in June. The river flowed through most of the outlet conduits and through nine low gaps in the spillway section in a shimmering white and green cascade higher than Niagara. (6-6-40)

Aerial view shows Mason City in the foreground and the government town of Coulee Dam across the river during the construction of Grand Coulee Dam. Mason City was taken over by the Bureau of Reclamation in 1942 and is now a part of Coulee Dam.
