| Notes | Benjamin S. Downing was born August 1861 in Maine. Before moving to Alaska in 1897, he was living in Rochester, New Hampshire, and working as a stock shipper. In 1900, he was living on the Yukon River north of Eagle and was working as a U.S. mail contractor. He also operated the B.S. Downing Eagle & Dawson Stage Line.
