| Notes | Notes in inventory: Paradise Park, Mount Tacoma. Panorama looking up Cowlitz Glacier.
Cowlitz Glacier is an ice river on the southeast slope of Mt. Rainier. It descends about five miles from a group of small glaciers near the summit, to the head of the Muddy Fork of the Cowlitz River. The large glacier, in the southeast part of the park, was named in 1870 by P. B. Van Trump and Gen. Hazard Stevens, when they found it to be the source of the Cowlitz River by its Muddy Fork.
