| Notes | In 1897, a government contract was let to Robert Moran of Seattle for the construction of a torpedo boat, the ROWAN, for the U.S. Navy. The ROWAN was launched in 1898, the first steel fighting ship to be built for the government on Puget Sound (pg. 21 and pg. 34) Notes from Gordon Newell, ed., The H.W.
