| Description | CAV-01-1 (L) - Byzantine glazed ware jar(?) fragmentary rim and handle. White inclusions, possible limestone and quartz. Fragmentary body and handle, with oval section, probably jar with rounded body, glazed in ext.- green; poorly preserved, flaking off. Very worn surfaces- traces of glaze (green) on interior (thinly applied and flaking off). Color of fresh fracture: 5YR 6/8. Color of exterior: Dark yellowish-green. Color of interior: 5YR 6/8. Found on slope beneath cave complex. CAV-01-3 (C): Roman-Early Byzantine plain ware jar rim. Some white inclusions, probably quartz, some are very large. Thickened flanged jar rim, probably scorched. Crudely hand-made. Color of fresh fracture: 7.5 YR 6/4. Color of interior and exterior: 7.5YR 6/4. Rim diameter (exterior): 12 cm. Found on slope beneath cave complex. CAV-01-2 (R): Late Byzantine glazed ware base. Fine white inclusions, probably limestone, a few rounded voids. Base and high ring foot, glazed on exterior of foot and probably on int of vessel. Dark brown on ext w/ white bands. Yellowish-green on int. Glaze poorly preserved and flaking. Import? Fabric different from CAV-01-1 and Pinarcik material. Color of fresh fracture: 5YR 7/6. Color of interior and exterior: 5YR 7/6. Base diameter (exterior): 6 cm. Found on slope beneath cave complex. |
