| Description | KIL-97-11 (TL) - Early-middle Roman fine ware bowl rim. Fine clay matrix with some mica, rounded voids. Fragmentary flanged rim of dish/bowl, slipped on both sides, but slip is flaking off. Color of fresh fracture: 7.5YR 7/4. Color of interior and exterior finish: 7.5YR 3/2 to black. Rim diameter (ext): 22 cm. Found near North Churches (area I-3, 1997). KIL-97-14 (TR) - Early-middle Roman fine ware bowl rim. Few white inclusions. Fragmentary vertical rim with rounded top of carinated bowl. Carination survives, but body missing. Slipped on both sides. Black on interior. Color of fresh fracture: 5YR 6/6. Color of exterior: 10R 4/8. Color of interior: 5YR 3/1 (slips). Rim diameter (int): 26 cm. Found near North Churches (area F3, 1997). KIL-97-9 (M) - Early-middle (?) Roman fine ware small jar rim. Very fine clay matrix with some mica. Fragmentary everted rim with short collar and possible oval body, largely missing, unevenly slipped on exterior. 0.3 cm wall thickness. Thin grooved lones on exterior of rim and collar. Color of fresh fracture: 5YR 6/6. Color of exterior: 2.5YR 5/8 to 5YR 5/8. Color of interior: 5YR 6/6Rim diameter (ext.): 6. Found near North Churches (area I-1, 1997). KIL-97-10 (BL) - Middle-late Rom fine ware dish/bowl rim. Fine matrix with no visible inclusions. Flanged rim with convex body, shallow bowl or dish. Slipped on both sides. Numerous tool marks on interior and exterior. Lightly ribbed on top of rim. Color of fresh fracture: 7.5YR 8/4 to 7/4. Color of exterior: 5YR 6/8. Color of interior: same with brown stains. Rim diameter (int.): 15. Rim diameter (ext.): 19. Found near North Churches (area I-2, 1997). KIL-97-8 (BR) - Early Byzantine plain ware lantern fragmentary body sherd. Some quartz, brown inclusions, possibly grog. Some dark white inclusions, possibly limestone. Fragmentary body sherd from upper and lower part of a latern; scorched around edges of hole and lower body on exterior. Color of interior, exterior, and fresh fracture: 2.5 YR 6/8. Max. circumference 12cm. |
