| Notes | Text with photo: DC-9 Inspection -- U.S. Representative Brock Adams, left, (Seventh District, Washington) inspects special engine pylon installed on a McDonnell Douglas DC-9 which will be used in flight tests of Pratt & Whitney Aircraft JT8D jet engines redesigned with a new turbofan section to reduce sound levels. Congressman Adams visited the Douglas Aircraft Company division of McDonnell Douglas in Long Beach, California to gather data on current aircraft noise alleviation programs jointly funded by government and industry. With him are, second from left, H. L. Mailander, DC-9 chief engineer; A. L. McPike, Douglas director of industry association activities; and G. T. Rowe, DC-9 program manager.
