| Contextual Notes | Hannah Hatherly Maynard was born in England in 1834. She married Richard Maynard in 1852, and moved with him to Victoria, B.C. in 1862. That same year Hannah Maynard opened her studio (Mrs. R. Maynard's Photographic Gallery) and operated it until her retirement in 1912. She boasted that she had photographed everyone who had passed through Victoria, B.C. Hannah and Richard traveled often and both took landscape images of their destinations. Hannah also experimented with photo techniques including photosculpture, multipule exposure, and composite imagery. She died in Victoria in 1918. |
