| Contextual Notes | Stewart H. Holbrook, a beloved Northwest author, moved to Portland, Oregon in 1923. A columnist for the Oregonian he wrote many published articles and books about popular history, famous Old West characters and interesting people and events of the Northwest. Although the author never admitted to it publicly, Holbrook was the painter Mr. Otis. Holbrook or Mr. Otis had art shows all over Portland and the country and was collected by prominent collectors and personalities. Holbrook died in 1964. |
