Historical NotesThe Century 21 monorail was designed to carry people between downtown Seattle and the World's Fair site. ALWEG Rapid Transit Systems, a West German firm, began contruction in April 1961, and the monorail opened to the public less than a year later. The trains carried over eight million people during the six months of the fair.

The Century 21 Exposition, also known as the Seattle World's Fair, was held between April 21 and October 21, 1962.
