NotesPlaybill includes a brief introduction to the producer-director team of Sid and Marty Krofft; a breakdown of each act featured in the production; lighting, sound and puppeteer credits; and special thanks to those who contributed their voices to the performance, which included such notable celebrities as Mae West and Liberace.
Contextual NotesSid and Marty Krofft are the sons a renowned puppeteer from Greece, and represent the fifth generation of the family to bring the art of puppetry to the world since the mid-1700's. Prior to their introduction of "Les Poupees de Paris" (the Dolls of Paris), the Kroffts were acclaimed for their marionette act in such top spots as the Cocoanut Grove, the Flamingo and Riviera Hotels in Las Vegas, the Waldorf-Astoria in New York and the London Palladium. One morning, Sid Krofft awoke to the idea of creating an adults-only show featuring his marionettes, complete with musical numbers, comedy, horror, and celebrity appearances. The resulting show, which came to be known as "Les Poupées de Paris" was a lavish production that included a revolving theater, elevators, an ice-skating rink and a waterfall. Following the great success of the show at the 1962 Seattle World's Fair, "Les Poupees de Paris" continued to travel around the country for the remainder of the decade and was seen by an estimated nine and a half million people.
