extolled
the
virtues
of
drinking
water.
Printed
above
the
lyrics:
The
words
of this
much-loved
song
were
written
as
early
as
1818
[by
Samuel
Woodworth]
and were
first
sung
to a
Scottish
air
,
"Jessie
, the
Flower
o'
Dumblane."
The
tune
which
is
so
familiar
today
was
written
by an
English
composer
,
George
Kiallmark
, and
first
published
in
1870.
