Cold Water Army Pledge medal (obverse)
Cold Water Army Pledge medal (obverse)
TitleCold Water Army Pledge medal (obverse)
PrinterThomas
Publication Daten.d.
NotesThe medal is stamped with an image of a man raising a bucket of water from a well.

Stamped around the edge of the medal: How sweet from the green mossy brim to receive it. As poised on the curb it inclined to my lips.

Reverend Thomas P. Hunt organized the Cold Water Army as a children's temperance organization. Hunt felt that it was important to educate children about the dangers of alcohol before they had been exposed to it.

The phrase stamped on the medal is a quote from the Samuel Woodworth poem, "The Old Oaken Bucket."
