Through
the
persuasion
of the
Woman's
Christian
Temperance
Union
at the
end
of the
nineteenth
century
,
most
states
had
strong
legislation
which
mandated
that
all
students
receive
anti-alcohol
education.
The
WCTU
was also
concerned
with
keeping
the
Sabbath
day
holy
and
worked
within
churches
to
educate
children
about
temperance.
