Background information: "On April 16 [1970], the federal government, in its infinite wisdom, beatified eight more Movement leaders when Mike Abeles, Jeff Dowd, Michael Justesen, Joe Kelly, Michael Lerner, Roger Lippman, Charles Clark 'Chip' Marshall III, and Susan Stern were charged with conspiracy to incite a riot at the February 17 'TDA' demonstration... Justesen disappeared underground, so the 'Seattle Eight' became the more mellifluous 'Seattle Seven.'" (Crowley, Walt. Rites of Passage: A Memoir of the Sixties in Seattle. Seattle: University of Washington Press. pp. 171-172)

Background information: "The trial of the Seattle Seven began on November 23, 1970, in the Tacoma courtroom of Judge George Boldt He sentenced them on contempt and declared a mistrial on December 10; the defendants later won temporary freedom on bail."
