| Notes | Quote from document: "The American Serviceman's Union was founded in the fall of 1967 at Port Sill, Oklahoma by a group of three people led by Andy Stapp. The purpose of the Union was, as it is now, to give rank and fill enlisted men the opportunity to win their rights as human beings. This can only be done through the unity of an organized group. Stapp was bitterly persecuted for his activities, until he was finally released from the Army as an undesirable just one month before he was to be honorably discharged. The Union however did not die with Stapp's release. The discontent over the treatment of rank and file enlisted personnel stationed in this country and the conditions under which GIs are forced to fight only fueled the fire for freedom. The harrassement of officers and NCOs and degrading duties men are ordered to perform are one of the concerns of the Union."
Calls for: 1) An immediate end to the war in Viet Nam, 2) The right of representation, 3) Due process of the law, 4) An end to racial discrimination, 5) Federal minimum wages, 6) Freedom of speech and the right of free political association."
