Historical background: On June 29, 1970 Private Willie Williams, an Afro-American GI at Fort Lewis, was court-martialed for presenting an antiwar statement and poster to his commanding officer, and sentenced despite a June 19 rally at the Shelter Half coffeehouse in Tacoma in his support.
