NotesHandwritten on verso of image: January 12, 1931. Dr. J. Tate Mason took Miss Shook and James Wehn, both artists, and me to Suquamish, Paulsbo, Bremerton, Shelton, Olympia, Nisqually and home. This picture was taken by Mr. Wehn at the grave of Chief Seattle. C.B.B.

Contextual NotesBagley, Clarence (1843-1932): Born in Troy Grove, Illinois, and arrived in Seattle in October 1860 at the age of 17, along with his parents. He became a printer, publisher, and writer, a founder of the Washington State Historical Society, and the region's first and preeminent historian.
