Gould, Carl Frelinghausen (1873-1939): Born in New York to a wealthy family. Gould pursued a Harvard education, which groomed him for study at the prestigious Parisian Ecole des Beaux Arts. Gould's firm designed Suzzallo Library and 17 other buildings on the University of Washington campus. He also designed the Seattle Art Museum building in Volunteer Park. Gould founded the University of Washington's Department of Architecture, providing Seattle and the state of Washington with a pool of locally educated designers.
