| Notes | This image appears as the frontispiece in a booklet entitled "Minutes of the Convention of the Inland Empire Division of the Loyal Legion of Loggers and Lumbermen, June 22, 1918, Spokane, Washington". The image shows a logger walking through a forested landscape -- in the distance, a naval vessel is visible in a body of water, and a biplane appears in the sky. An arm clothed in stars and stripes gestures downward from the words "Spruce Production Division -- U.S. Signal Corps", and a logger at the base of the image faces outwards, standing behind the words "Loyal Legion of Loggers and Lumbermen". The logger's axe bears the inscription "L L L L", and he wears a badge on his shirt that is emblazoned with the same acronym. Imposed on the image of the landscape are the words "Spruce for the air. Fir for the sea. 'The strength of your blows and the loyalty of your hearts will win this war.'" The image is signed "Adrian Brewer -- 18". |
