TitleExcerpts from Bulletins No. 1 and No. 2 of the Loyal Legion of Loggers and Lumbermen, regarding treason and sedition, December 1917
AuthorLoyal Legion of Loggers and Lumbermen
Date of Publication1917
NotesThis document reprints quotations from Bulletins No. 1 and No. 2 of the Loyal Legion of Loggers and Lumbermen, the first of which was issued on December 29, 1917. While the format implies that these are excerpts from the bulletins, it is possible that in one or both of these cases the quotation reproduces the full text of the original bulletin. According to this document, the bulletins were sent to local secretaries and labeled "CONFIDL", though it's unclear whether both quotations were confidential, or only the quotation from Bulletin #1.

The quotation from Bulletin #1 informs the recipient that any member talking disloyally against the U.S. government or the Loyal Legion should first be reasoned with: if this fails, his card and badge should be taken from him, and he should be reported to the Spruce Production Division office to be dishonorably discharged from "this Govt's orgn." Employers should also be notified to fire the man immediately.

The quotation from Bulletin #2 informs readers that one of their duties will be to protect "credulous brothers" from the whispers of the enemies within the camps. The document insists that no one is signing away constitutional rights by joining the Loyal Legion -- that such talk is "the work of Spies & Traitors". The loyalty pledge to the Legion, according to the bulletin, is simply an expression of dedication to aiding the nation. It is each man's responsibility to "combat such sinister propaganda", prevent "acts of sabotage & seditn [sic]", and to thwart the enemy in any way possible.
