NotesThis passport belonging to Watson C. Squire, signed by Secretary of State William M. Evarts, provides a physical description of Squire at the age of 39. The reverse of the document bears many seals and signatures from Squire's European travels in 1877-1878.
Contextual NotesWatson Carvosso Squire, 1838-1926, was an attorney, Civil War veteran, industrialist, governor of Washington Territory from 1884-1887, and senator for Washington State from 1889-1897. During the 1870s, he worked for the Remington Arms Company.
