Dear Miss Ober,
I hasten to inform you that I am in receipt of a letter from Seattle stating that with regards to the 16 students that left here last year, not only they have been overcharged $90.00 gold each, they are also being threatened for another sum $150.00 gold. The students, however, have written to their people complaining of the unfairness, and ask that necessary steps should at once be taken against you. I have so far managed to quiet them down for the present with the promise that I would get your explanations before they rush at a thing. You will therefore wire over at once and ask your people to adjust the thing and get the students to send a bettter report here soon as possible so as to have your name cleared. You are quite aware that things were fully arranged for $1, 000 met and $210.00 gold for each boy with one year's schooling after having permitted to land. With now $90.00 gold already overcharged, and a demand of a further sum of $150.00 gold for the lot, it seems to me almost to be pure absurdity. Please wire at once, find out and settle the matter soon as possible before any trouble serious arises.
Believe me to be Sincerely yours Tam Man Chik |
