| Contextual Notes | Ashley E. Holden was a newspaper reporter and a Republican in the Washington State Legislature. He sued publishers of PIC, Street & Smith for libel for stating he was un-American and a friend of Japan. Previous to World War II, Holden had been involved in strengthening trade relations between the United States and Japan. Mary Farquharson was a State Legislator, a civic leader and Christian pacifist. Her papers document activities of Caucasian-Americans who did not agree with the policy of evacuating the Japanese-Americans to relocation camps during World War II, and who worked in aid of the evacuees as well as correspondence with Japanese Americans in the internment camps. |
