NotesThe author of the letter, most likely Asahel Curtis, writes to Webster to congratulate him on the formation of the Port Angeles mountaineering club and and reminisces about their experiences hiking up the Elwha in the Olympics: "When I first knew the range in 1891, it was practically an unbroken wilderness but now the greater part of the range can be reached by some form of trail and the interest aroused by mountaineering clubs has been responsible for considerable of this work."
