TitleCannery Workers and Farm Laborers Union Local 18257 letter from union leadership to Mr. Sakahara asking for his help in urging Japanese farmers not to hire Communist workers, April 24, 1934
AuthorDuyungan, Virgil S.; Mislang, Cornelio B.
Date of Publication1934
NotesLetter from union leadership of the Cannery Workers and Farm Laborers Union Local 18257 to Mr. T. Sakahara of Tacoma, Washington, discussing a meeting with the Japanese Growers Association regarding not hiring radical or Communist workers in the South Park, Sumner, Kent and Auburn districts and urging Japanese farmers to hire workers directly from the union to avoid strikes and lockouts.

Quote from document: At present there are many false labor agents here that are trying to employ or furnish the farmers workers who are not know [known] to us. Some of these workers belong to the Communist Party. These few individual workers will and might cause agitation in our farms and the result is a strike or lockout not known to our organization. We urge you therefore, that the Japanese Growers Association will cooperate with us to avoid future troubles in the future by hiring your workers directly from our office or this organization - if on the other hand will be a great loss on the part of the Farmers as well as the Laborers".
