| Contextual Notes | The Puget Sound Electric Railway built by the Puget Sound Traction, Light & Power Co. started operation on September 25, 1902 and ran between Tacoma and Seattle, with stops at Milton, Jovita, Pacific, Algona, Auburn, Kent, Orillia, and Renton. It was powered by overhead wires in urban areas and third-rail system of electrification elsewhere. The terminal station for Seattle was near Pioneer Square where one could connect with other transportation lines in the city. Seattle-Tacoma interurban rail service ended on December 30, 1928 and was replaced by interurban bus service. Sound Transit "Sounder" commuter trains now carry commuters between the two cities. |
