Contextual NotesPort Safety is on a spit between Safety and Norton Sounds, 6 miles east of Cape Nome and 14 miles southwest of Solomon, Seward Peninsula. It was the site of a mining camp established in the summer of 1900 at the height of the Nome gold rush. Safety Post Office was established here in 1900 and discontinued in 1902.
