Alma Wagen was Mt. Rainier's first female guide and an important figure in Northwest mountain guiding and climbing history.

Born in Switzerland, Hans Fuhrer moved to the United States with his brother Heinrich who was also a climbing guide. During his career in the U.S. Hans completed more than 150 ascents of Mount Rainier.

Digital Reproduction InformationAll images were scanned from photographic prints using Microtek scanners in 8-bit grayscale between 100 and 800 ppi. Using Adobe Photoshop 7.0 or 8.0, resized to 768 pixels wide or 600 pixels high (whichever was greater), adjusted the histogram, sharpened and saved in JPEG format at quality rating 3. 2004-2005
