Site locationValley near crater
NotesSlide shows the interior of a small valley adjacent to the crater that Weyerhaeuser Company was actively logging at that time. This is a large crane that was used to lift the logs and put them onto logging trucks to haul them out. It is obviously totally destroyed. Nothing is left standing in the valley except for a few stumps and little pieces of trees. And from the size of the log, you can get an idea of the pieces that were bouncing around in that valley. Fortunately, no one was killed in this valley because they were all attending the church service at Weyerhaeuser base camp Sunday morning. Because of that, they are now alive. Normally, about 35 people would have been working.
