NotesSlide shows Javis Moyers, in the gray jacket, a Professor from the University of Arizona, and in the red flannel shirt is Maryland graduate student Dave Finningan. The helicopter pilot in the white jacket is observing them. They were collecting gases using the cryogenic collector out at one of the hot vents. The gases are collected using a dry ice system so that anything that contains a volatile metal component will be condensed in collection tubes. These then can be analyzed for the volatile metallic content. The materials also pass through a filter to remove particles so that there will only be gaseous materials being condensed out of the high temperature vents. This is in the debris flow in front of the crater.
