NotesSlide shows the collection of an ash sample at the base of that logging truck that had been destroyed. This allowed us to get a sample of ash that had been covered and not rained on. We were able to extract it to study the chemistry of soluble materials that were on that ash. Normally, at a volcano the ash and debris of initial eruptions is leached by rain and groundwater so that soluble components have been removed and are no longer present. This would give a false record of what was contained in the initial volcanic explosion and initial ash deposit as it had been modified by the leaching procedure.
