Notes
Slide
shows
the
collection
of an
ash
sample
at the
base
of that
logging
truck
that had been
destroyed.
This
allowed
us to
get
a
sample
of
ash
that had been
covered
and not
rained
on.
We
were
able
to
extract
it
to
study
the
chemistry
of
soluble
materials
that were on that
ash.
Normally
, at a
volcano
the
ash
and
debris
of
initial
eruptions
is
leached
by
rain
and
groundwater
so
that
soluble
components
have been
removed
and are
no
longer
present.
This would
give
a
false
record
of what was
contained
in the
initial
volcanic
explosion
and
initial
ash
deposit
as
it
had been
modified
by the
leaching
procedure.
