NotesSlide shows the intakes on the P3 aircraft that we flew for NASA, studying Mount St. Helens in a time period right after the eruption. The three inlets to the left is where we pulled the gases into the plane to be able to sample the gases, and isokinetically to collect particles on filters on the inside of the aircraft. The little tubes facing backwards would be the exhaust where we exhausted the air after we filtered it. The probes were far enough out so we would not have a problem because the air flow would be disturbed from the skin of the aircraft.
