Title cartouche surrounded by flowers. Areas where Native American tribes reside are indicated throughout the map.
The title cartouche for the inset map of the United States is decorated with flowers, ribbon and leaves. Thsi map shows several states including "Georgien, " "Sud Carolina, " "Nord Carolina, " "Virginien, , " "Pennsylvanien, " "Neu York", Massachusets, " "Connecticut, " and "Neu Main." The Great Lakes are depicted as well as land belonging to various Native American tribes including the "Chikasaws, " "Chaktaw, " and "Chiktaghik."
In the inset map of modern-day Alaska, there are areas marked for various Native American tribes including "Dog Ribbd Oder[illegible]ben Indianer" and "Arathapescow Indianer." | Contextual Notes | Franz Johann Joseph von Reilly (1766-1820) was a Viennese art dealer, mapmaker and publisher. He was one of the first Austrians to publish an atlas. His works include "Schauplatz der Welt Atlas" (1789-91), "Deutscher Atlas" (1796) and "Atlas Univ." (1799) (Tooley, 533).
Kilian Ponheimer was an engraver for Reilly's publishing house in Vienna. His works include "Amerika" (1795) and "Switzerland" (1796) (Tooley, 514).
