Shows exploration routes and dates of many explorers including: Captain James Cook in the 1760s and 1770s, Jean-Francois de la Perouse in 1786 and 1788, George Vancouver in 1791-2, and Captain Charles Clerke in 1779. Also shows Lieutenant Richard Pickersgill's trade route in the north Atlantic Ocean. Shows areas where various Native American tribes live in modern-day Canada. Depicts Greenland as connected to North America. Includes lines marking the Arctic and Antarctic Circles. Shows large area of northwestern modern-day U.S. as "Doegg Nation" with an unnamed lake. Shows Mount Olympus, Mount Baker, and Mount Hood in the Pacific Northwest.

| Contextual Notes | John Cary was an English cartographer, engraver, globe maker and publisher in London. He served as an apprentice to William Palmer in 1770. He published many county and foreign atlases. He was also commissioned to create a survey of English roads which he completed in 1794. His works include: "New and Correct English Atlas" (1787 with editions to 1831), "Travellers Companion" (1790-1828), "Globes" (1799), "New Universal Atlas" (1808), and "England and Wales Scale half inch to mile for Post Office" (1832).
