| Descriptive Notes | John Lodge (fl. 1754-1796) was a geographer and engraver in London. His works include: "South Carolina" (1771), "Stephen" (1773) with Parish, Adair's "American Indians" (1775), maps issued in 1782 in "Political Magazine, " "Atlas of Great Britain and Ireland" (c.a. 1795) (Moreland and Bannister, 177; Tooley, 398).

Printed beneath title cartouche is a legend comparing British miles to degrees with the caption:
"British Statute Miles, 69 to a degree."
Shows discoveries and results of exploration along northwest coast including a site where "Sr. Francis Drake was 5 Weeks" and areas discovered by Juan de Fuca and Aguilar. The map also shows the whole far northwestern region of North America with the label "These Parts are unknown." Northern California is labeled as "New Albion" and the northern Midwest is shown as "Teguayo & Quivira." North of New Albion is the "River of the West" and the "Western Sea." Areas where some Native American tribes are located are shown such as the "Land of the Assiniboils" "Chicasaws" "Cherakee" and "Chactaws." States within the United States are shown including Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Pennsylvania, New York and the region of "New England." The large region of "Louisiana" is also shown as west of the Mississippi. Contains a small compass in Atlantic Ocean off the coast of South Carolina. Title cartouche decorated with flowers.
