| Notes | The Quileute Indians, whose reservation on the west coast of Washington's Olympic Peninsula was distant from road or rail connections, obtained supplies by loading up their large sea-going canoes. In this photo, Indians unload large sacks at First Beach, which borders the village of La Push.

Photographer Frank Nowell was active in Alaska in the 1890s and early 1900s and in Seattle from 1903 until his retirement in the late 1940s.
