| Notes | Illness was a constant fear among boarding school students and staff. The influenza epidemic of 1918 hit hard at Tulalip, and there was a very real threat of tuberculosis for many years. The hospital building had two wards, one for boys and one for girls. The dormitories each had a sick room for minor ailments. The staff in this photo include student nurses in training: Josie Cayou (Swinomish); Theresa Young (Tulalip); Myrtle Loughrey (Suquamish); Clara Jones (Swinomish); Emily Limon (Upper Skagit); and Annie Nason (Muckleshoot, in center). Nurse O'Dell and Dr. Buchanan stand at the rear.
Photographer Ferd Brady had a studio in Marysville, Washington from 1907 to 1910, then moved to Everett, and finally settled in Anacortes in the 1920s. In the 1910s, he had a government contract to photograph the people and activities at the Tulalip Indian School, near Marysville. Brady closed his Everett studio in 1952 and died in 1967.
