| Studio Location | United States--Washington (State)--Everett |
| Date | ca. 1912 |
| Notes | Tugs of war are a traditional part of July 4th picnics anywhere in the United States. This was true at the Tulalip Indian Reservation too, but here the participants compete in canoes. Such novel adaptations involving games and sports are typical of this transitional period.
Photographer Ferd Brady had a studio in Marysville, Washington from 1907 to 1910, then moved to Everett, and finally settled in Anacortes in the 1920s. In the 1910s, he had a government contract to photograph the people and activities at the Tulalip Indian School, near Marysville. Brady closed his Everett studio in 1952 and died in 1967.
