Note from unidentified source: The Makah people of the Olympic Peninsula built small canoes for fishing. In this photo, taken around 1900 by Anders Wilse, a Makah fisherman has just brought his canoe in to the beach at Neah Bay. The woman has unloaded two large salmon. She will clean the fish and smoke or dry it to eat later.
