Handwritten on negative jacket: June 1900. Old Gold Creek Series. Lawrie Lindsley and Saddle Horse Big Jim at Esther Mines cabin. First trip in before all the snow was gone. Coming in saddle turned on the horse, as I leaned over to pass under big leaning log over trail, and Jim jumped off trail and proceeded to kick saddle to pieces. Me I landed in pile of rocks and sure had a swelled jaw. Made temporary repairs and when we got to cabin patched up saddle OK. Uncle Will was with me and next day we pack supplies in and went to mining. Big Jim was some horse and hard to handle, but faithful. |
