Handwritten on negative jacket: October 1898. Old Gold Creek Series. Lawrie and Big Jim saddle horse at cabin, Ptarmigan Park. Lawrie was packing out ore from the Esther Mines when this photo was made. Uncle Tom made the shot. On my saddle I carried a bulls eye lantern and big hatchet, also rifle. It was sure a wet month, October 1898. Packed ore to head of Lake Keetchelus [sic], a distance of 8 3/4 miles.
