[on third copy] July & August 1899. Hanging Rock, Lake Keechelus, 1899. Old Snoqualmie Pass Road around Lake Keechelus in 1899. (Now U.S. Hiway 10.) This was a dangerous spot. Emigrant wagons had to hug the cliff to keep from going into the lake. Now a four lane concrete paved hiway runs along here, with concrete snowshed which was finished in 1952.

Handwritten on negative jacket: July and August 1899. Old Gold Creek Series. On old Snoqualmie Pass Road at Hanging Rock, Lake Keechelus. Chas Prosser standing. There is a snowshed there now and road is paved concrete. When we worked on the 4 mules around Lake Keechelus it was a very rough rocky way. It took a wagon a long time to make the trip from crossing at Yakima River at the foot of the lake to the head. |
